Bus-sized Asteroid 2016 SJ passed just 0.4 lunar distance away (92,575 miles or 148,985 km) one third of the distance between Earth and the Moon on September 22, 2016.
This close encounter will be followed by a larger asteroid 2016 SG, 90ft (29 meters) long, that is set to pass us by in just a few days.
Asteroid 2016 SG was just discovered on September 22, 2016 and it has a highly uncertain orbit with a condition code of 8 out of 9.
Yet at the end of September another large asteroid is going to pass by Earth.
It seems they are coming one after one. Anyway, if one decides to hit, not a whole lot can be done about it. Also, they are not picking up most of these rogue asteroids until the warning window is very short. Just the law of odds and one will probably hit somewhere on the planet one day.
